Dr Janez Žlak Appointed New President of SSH Management Board
Today, on 30 September 2020, the Supervisory Board of Slovenian Sovereign Holding met at the extraordinary meeting and unanimously appointed Dr Janez Žlak as the new President of the Management Board of Slovenian Sovereign Holding. Dr Žlak will assume his office on 7 October 2020; on the same day, the term of office of Igor Kržan will be terminated and he will reassume his position of the Member of the Supervisory Board.
After Gabrijel Škof had resigned, the Nomination Committee of the SSH Supervisory Board carried out the selection procedure in accordance with ZSDH-1 in order to appoint a new President of the SSH Management Board. The procedure was conducted in cooperation with the international HR agency Trenkwalder, kadrovske storitve, d. o. o. All members of the SSH Supervisory Board are included in the Nomination Committee of the SSH Supervisory Board.
The applicants narrowed down on the candidate list took part in the structured interviews, after which both the HR agency as well as the Nomination Committee conducted the post-interview evaluation of candidates. Following this phase and taking into account the candidates' experience, other statutory provisions applicable to the President of the SSH Management Board and criteria for determining and assessing the suitability of candidates, the Nomination Committee proposed the SSH Supervisory Board to appoint Dr Janez Žlak as the new President of the SSH Management Board. In accordance with the Personal Data Protection Act, names of other candidates will not be disclosed.
On the basis of an in-depth evaluation of candidates, considering their professional, strategic, operational, leadership, organisational and personal competences as well as their specific characteristics, the SSH Supervisory Board approved the Nomination Committee's proposal to appoint Dr Janez Žlak as the President of the SSH Management Board. Dr Žlak will assume his office on 7 October 2020.
After the meeting, Karmen Dietner, the President of the SSH Supervisory Board, said: "I am glad that the Supervisory Board's decision on the appointment of the new President of the Supervisory Board was unanimous. We were convinced by Dr Žlak’s experience, knowledge and educational broadness as well as ambitions for managing SOEs in which case, in addition to implementing the set vision, the fundamental principles of SSH, the Strategy on managing state's capital assets and the Annual Asset Management Plan, the integration and inclusion of all stakeholders will play an important part. His personal characteristics and competences will particularly be highlighted when carrying out the complex task of preparing and transforming the institution into the Demographic Fund. We are looking forward to cooperating with Dr Žlak and we wish him a successful work.".
Dr Janez Žlak holds a PhD degree in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering (Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of the University of Maribor), a MSc degree in Economics (Faculty of Economics, University of Ljubljana), he is a specialist in mechanical engineering, and an energy specialist (Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Maribor). He started his career in Termoelektrarna Trbovlje, d. o. o. (TET) as the Shift Operations Manager, was then promoted to the Project Director and later became the Deputy to TET's Director. In 2016, he assumed the position of the Managing Director of RTH - Rudnik Trbovlje-Hrastnik, d. o. o., and three years later became its liquidator. He is currently employed with Petrol, d. d., holding the position of the Executive Director of Energy and Environmental Systems. He has rich experience in managing companies, organising business processes and leading staff, human resources management and in managing energy projects. He has passed several professional exams (the exam under the Construction Act, the exam for the Technical Manager of an energy facility, the exam in pedagogy and andragogy, the exam for an energy broker) and completed trainings for members of Supervisory Board and internal auditor. He is also the President of the Supervisory Board of Eles, d. o. o.
